North Carolina is a state in the Southern states the United States of America. It borders in the north Virginia, to the east to the Atlantic Ocean, to the south South carolina and Georgia and in the west Tennessee. In terms of population, it is in tenth place with almost 9 million inhabitants.
Regions
- North Carolina Mountains - the western region of the state; the main cities are Asheville and Boone.
- Piedmont - the centrally located, flat area of the state. The majority of the population lives here, e.g. in the Piedmont Triad (Group of three) Greensboro, Winston-Salem and High point or in the Research TriangleRaleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill. Also Charlotte, the largest city in the state, is here. The Sandhills also belong to this region.
- Coastal Plain - the coastal region with the Outer Banks, Wilmington, Kitty Hawk and the Crystal Coast. Military facilities are also located in this region, e.g. the Seymour Johnson AFB in Goldsboro and Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville.

- Charlotte is the largest city in North Carolina and stands for banking and professional sports. City center with little historical building fabric.
- Fayetteville - Fort Bragg and Pope Air Force Base location.
- Greensboro - located in the northern center of the state. Third largest city in North Carolina. Nice city center with a mixture of skyscrapers and older brick buildings.
- Wilmington - Colonial port city, especially popular with beach pilgrims.
- Winston-Salem - medium-sized city; Headquarters of the RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company.
- Research Triangle (also: “The Triangle") - urban region in the north of the Piedmont, which is known for its high-quality researchNorth Carolina State University, Duke University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill) is known. The triangle includes, among others. the cities:
- Durham - City of Tobacco; Duke University.
- Raleigh is the capital of North Carolina and the seat of many of the state's cultural institutions.
- Chapel Hill, Location of University of North Carolina.

Tourist Attractions
