background
Vermont, founded in 1777, is the fourteenth state in America and is the oldest state that was not part of the thirteen colonies that constituted the United States with the 1787 constitution. Vermont joined this union four years later as the 14th state.
The name 'Vermont' probably derives from (ancient) French verts monts "Green mountains". However, it is not - as is sometimes assumed - to be traced back to French settlers (who only existed in large numbers in Maine), but rather on the sympathy of the American founding generation with France, which supported the independence movement of the United States. This Francophilia is also expressed in the name of the state capital, Montpelier.

- Maple forests
activities
One of Vermont's biggest attractions is the fall foliage color. Americans from other parts of the country and even foreign tourists come to the state at this time of year just to enjoy the fabulous colors of the forests.
kitchen
The state's most famous product is maple syrup. 42% of US production of this sweetener comes from Vermont. In many places it is still made in family businesses in the traditional way: At the end of winter - end of February, beginning of March; During the day it must be plus degrees, but at night it still has to be frost - the trees are tapped and the sap that escapes is collected in buckets. This juice is then reduced to a thick concentrate in "evaporators": maple syrup.
