In the years 1975–1998, the city administratively belonged to the then Piotrków Voivodeship.

The town is picturesquely situated on both banks of the Pilica River, at the foot of the Przedborsko-Małogoski Range, the seat of the commune.

The first mention comes from 1136. The town was located at the crossing over the Pilica River, next to a busy trade route.

In 1423, in the castle of Przedbórz, municipal rights were granted to the then village of Lodzia (the town of Łódź), which is commemorated by a plaque embedded in the wall of the town hall.

The nineteenth century brought the development of industry, in 1823 Wojciech Lange founded the first cloth factory.

Worth seeing

  • The Folk Museum of the Przedbórz Region is located in a renovated 17th-century building of a former tavern at ul. Kielecka. Its collections include several thousand ethnographic and historical exhibits, presented as part of several permanent exhibitions; registration number: A-437 of June 13, 1993.
  • The parish church of st. Alexius, whose history dates back to 1278, but the oldest fragments existing to this day date from 1341. Built in the Gothic style, after repeated reconstructions, it represents the Baroque style. Side chapels were added to the nave in the years 1640–1695. Above the entrance to the southern chapel, a painting from the 16th century depicting Mary Magdalene by d'Albani, registration number 447 from February 27, 1957 and 306 from February 18, 1967
  • The town hall, built in the years 1826-1830, represents the late Classicist style. The brick, two-story building was in its history the seat of the magistrate, school and City Hall, reg.No .: 769 of May 30, 1972
  • Only the eastern frontage and the corner building with arcades, located at the end of Warszawska Street, survived from the square. Tenement houses from the 18th and 19th centuries dominate among the buildings that have survived.
