Reit im Winkl is a resort in the Bavarian Alps Chiemgau in the south East Upper Bavaria. The mountain and ski village is one of the leading climatic health resorts and hiking paradises. It is known far beyond Bavaria's borders as snow-sure and snow-rich. It is 695 meters high. Reit im Winkl consists of 10 districts: Reit im Winkl, Birnbach, Blindau, Entfelden, Groissenbach, Oberbichl, Unterbichl, Seegatterl, Winklmoos and Illmau.

Reit im Winkl was first mentioned in history in 1160. The name comes from clearing = reuten or arable and means a settlement that has arisen in a Bergwinkl after clearing.
Village legend - this is how Reit im Winkl came to BavariaIf you believe a legend over 200 years old, Reit im Winkl was forgotten in 1806 when the land was divided between Austria and Bavaria. Since the high lords supposedly had no desire to go to war, they played for the village. Max I (King of Bavaria), the Archbishop of Salzburg and Emperor Franz of Austria met in the "Unterwirt" tavern. The King of Bavaria won the game with the "Schelln Unter". So Reit im Winkl came to Bavaria and the "Schelln Unter" on the hat has been the "secret identification mark" of the locals ever since. Reit im Winkl is almost directly on the border with North Tyrol / Austria. From the north the federal highways 305 and 306 lead to Reit im Winkl, both roads belong to the route of the German Alpine Road. The Austrian B172 leads from Reit im Winkl to the neighboring one Kaiserwinkl and the Tyrolean lowlands.

The family-friendly ski area for Reit im Winkl is the Winklmoosalm with mostly flat slopes. The Winklmoosalm is part of the ski network Steinplatte / Winklmoosalm (Steinplatte in neighboring Austria) with separate and cheaper day ski passes for the Winklmoosalm and with multi-day tickets valid for both ski areas.
Winklmoosalm adult day pass: € 27.00 (2015/2016 season). The longest slope in the Winklmoosalm ski area is the main Seegatterl run, 8.0 km in length.
There are also four ski huts and several ski schools with their own practice area.
Free 1 Parking at the Seegatterl valley station, from here there are also free shuttles to the town center, around six kilometers away. The valley station of the Seegatterl gondola lift (up to the Winklmoosalm) is on the B305 to Rupolding. In winter, the driveway to the Alm is closed by car.
The small but easily accessible Ski area at the Benzeck lifts 2015 celebrated its 50th anniversary in the Blindau district. The sunny area has five lifts.
A cable lift and a button lift open up an easy slope that is over 100 meters wide and approx. 200 meters long. A wave run is laid out every year in the middle of the descent.
There is a red run at the bar lift at the Benzeckstüberl, here experienced skiers are welcome. In the children's area of the ski schools, a magic carpet transports the smallest beginners to the top.
An additional attraction that is included in the lift fee is the snow tubing facility. The courageous visitors are comfortably pulled to the starting point with a specially installed lift. Then it goes downhill in a rapid drive.
Another special feature of this family-run area is its own snowmaking facility. This guarantees snow in almost all weather conditions. Two restaurants serve guests with good and inexpensive food and drinks in front of a dream backdrop.
