There is no official evidence of the first written record of the place name. The first mention of the place name red comes from the year 1139. At that time, the St. Gumbertusstift in Ansbach left goods in "Rode" to the noble lords of Lobenhusen. In the oldest parish register of the Diocese of Würzburg from 1285, which contains the names of the later country chapter Crailsheim, our parish "Roden" is also listed. In such documents, our place is always only called "Rode" and "Rod", but not "by the lake".

We only encounter the place name "Rod" with the more precise definition "at the lake" after a lake was available, i.e. after the construction of the dam at the Seemühle. This 140 m long dam must be between 1333 and 1345 have been carried out, because in a document according to 1345 It is reported that Rudolf von Bebenburg received a fiefdom from the Feste zu Waldenburg and from the Feste "Lobenhusen uf dem Sewe zu Rode". The lake was 192 Wuerttemberg acres (34 ha) and was drained in 1757.

After the transition to Hohenlohe, Rot belonged to the Lobenhausen office with the bailiwick and court and left 1399 with this to the burgraves of Nuremberg, who had previously acquired goods.

In the period that followed, further goods came to Ansbach. 1645 Rot became the main town of the Ansbach office of Lobenhausen.

As a castle and place Lobenhausen 1797 was ceded with parts of the office of the same name to Hohenlohe, the immediate subordination of Rot am See, which then remained Ansbach, to the Oberamt Crailsheim. 1806 it got Bavarian 1810 Württemberg. It belonged to the Oberamt Gerabronn and von 1938 to 1972 to the Crailsheim district.

The municipality of Rot am See consists of the formerly independent municipalities of Beimbach, Brettheim, Hausen am Bach and Reubach, which were incorporated into Rot am See. The community includes a total of 34 villages, hamlets, farms and houses.

activities

  • The 1 MuswieseMuswiese in the encyclopedia WikipediaMuswiese in the media directory Wikimedia CommonsMuswiese (Q1955688) in the Wikidata database has been a large trading market for many generations, which is still of economic importance today. It is a shopping center for tens of thousands of citizens from hamlets, villages and towns in the Hohenlohe region, and a fair for traders and craftsmen from the region that is well worth a visit. They have a range of goods from 500 exhibitors, market stalls, farms and showmen's businesses, which in its abundance basically impresses all visitors from near and far. The magic of this fair has remained unadulterated for centuries and the Muswiese enjoys the same reputation as a meeting place for happy entertainment with old and young people. The Muswiese probably owes its existence, apart from a proper royal fair privilege, above all to the medieval pilgrimages to St. Michael's Church at the advantageous intersection of two long-distance trade routes, on the historic salt trade route Hall-Rothenburg, which runs in a west-east direction, and the Kaiserstraße that runs from Donauwörth via Crailsheim to Mergentheim . While the exact origin of the Muswiese lies hidden in the dark of history, it was first mentioned in a document in 1434 in a land register for the Bebenburg office of the Burgraviate of Nuremberg, which later became the market county of Brandenburg-Ansbach oldest in the country. The place of the manuscript reads there: "Moszdorff.... Item the czoll on St. Michaelmas day on the jarmarkt excites everybody to 15 guldein to common jars. Item the same there belongs with the Vogtey to Bebenburgk. "
  • At the Bartholoma Market In Rot am See-Beimbach, the 20th edition of the tractor and commercial vehicle classic car meeting was on the program in 2019. The Bartholomämarkt, which takes place in August, was first mentioned in a document like the Muswiese in 1434. A more recent invention, on the other hand, is the commercial vehicle classic car meeting on Saturday, which took place for the first time in 2000 and now attracts up to 500 vehicles. There is a small but fine village and farmer's market and an interesting music program in the marquee.
