Schlüttsiel is a small ferry port on the North Sea in North Frisia. The Hallig ferry starts from here Hooge, Langeneß and Gröde. Schlüttsiel belongs to the municipality Ockholm.

The Schlüttsiel ferry port was opened in 1959 when the Hauke Haien Koogs built. Before that, the old port, from which the ship connections to the Halligen existed, was in Bongsiel, about 3.5 km east of the current location. This facility was built in 1752. However, the port soon lost its importance as the access routes were very poorly developed.
Today Schlüttsiel consists primarily of the multi-storey ferry house directly on the outer dike in the Koog, the handling systems for the ferry on the harbor pier, the harbor basin, the sluice structure of the one draining here Bongsieler canal and the Jordsand information center inside the Koog. The port is particularly important because of the ferry connections to the Halligen Langeneß and Hooge.

- The nearest commercial airports are the 1 Sylt Airport
(IATA: GWT) (55 km) and the 2 Hamburg Airport(IATA: HAM) (180 km). - The 3 Heide-Büsum airfield(IATA: HEI) has a fired runway for aircraft up to 5.7 t gross vehicle weight. There is a flight connection from Heligoland with the OFD. (88 km)
- The closest sports airfield is the 4 Husum Airport(IATA: QHU) in Schwesing. It is located approx. 39 km southeast and is only approached by small private planes.
By train
Schlüttsiel has no rail connection. The nearest train stations are the 5 Bredstedt station
and the 6 Langenhorn (Schlesw) train station. There is a bus connection to Schlüttsiel from both train stations. These are - depending on the time of day - regular or on-call buses.
By bus
Bus line 1029 from Bredstedt station, travel time 20 minutes, runs several times a day. In the off-season, bus departures from Bredstedt also match the ferry departures in Schlüttsiel (exact times on the WDR website below). There is an on-call bus from Langenhorn train station. This only runs if you register up to 90 minutes before departure on Tel. 49 (0)4841 67555.

to Bredstedt, turn there on country road L 191 via Bordelum and Ockholm to Schlüttsiel.
By boat

The Hallig ferry of the Wyker Dampfschiffs-Reederei (WDR) sails the Halligen from Schlüttsiel Hooge and Langeneß. The earlier connection to the island Amrum is no longer offered.
The new ships of the W.D.R. are barrier-free, on the older ships the staff will help with restrictions. Travel times high season (end of March to end of October) daily 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. from Schlüttsiel. In the off-season, Tues 10 a.m., Thurs 10 a.m. and 5:35 p.m., Fri 5:35 p.m., Sat 12:15 p.m., Sun 4:45 p.m. No ferry connections to the Halligen on December 24th. and 31.12. Deviations and cancellations of departures are possible in the event of storms and floods; Follow the instructions on the website. The journey time from Schlüttsiel is 1:15 h to Hooge, 1:45 h to Langeneß.Open: Open one hour before the ferry departs.

Radler on the North Sea Cycle Route come on the way from Husum to Niebüll through Schlüttsiel. Stage length Husum - Schlüttsiel approx. 55 km, Schlüttsiel - Niebüll approx. 23 km.
mobility
The few steps from the parking lot to the ferry port can be mastered quickly for all mobile people via two staircases next to the ferry house. 
Access to the ferry house is only possible to a limited extent for people with reduced mobility from the parking lot side and then with the elevator in the building. 
Park
9 parking spot Paid parking spaces with a parking ticket machine (only coins and EC card payment possible) are available in Schlüttsiel. Anyone who has booked a ferry passage for their vehicle drives over the dike directly to the pier.

Popular restaurant on top of the dike with a wonderful view of the harbor and the Wadden Sea. Nordic, seasonal cuisine with fresh fish, samphire or salt meadow lamb. If you are looking for bars, pubs and discos, you will not find it here - the nightlife on site consists of the counter of the ferry house and - assuming good weather - a starry sky over the sea. If you are looking for more choice for the evening, you should go to Husum drive.
