Scylla is a city of Calabria; it is one of the best known tourist destinations in the region, especially as regards summer tourism.
To know
When to go
The main season to visit the city is summer, given its seaside vocation; for a short half-day visit it is also possible to orient yourself on the mid-seasons (spring and autumn), especially if close to the bathing season (which typically extends from June to September).
How to orient yourself
Neighborhoods
St. George
The historic center of Scilla is called "San Giorgio", and develops around the Piazza San Rocco, which houses, among other things, the church of San Rocco, patron saint of Scilla, and the town hall. Piazza San Rocco consists of a large terrace built on a ridge of rock, and overlooks the panorama of the Strait of Messina. The gaze embraces Punta Pacì (which delimits the southern end of the Scilla area), Sicily (in particular Ganzirri and, on clear days, Capo Milazzo), in the distance some of the Aeolian Islands (Lipari, Panarea is Stromboli) and the Ruffo Castle.
The historic center includes the ancient town of Bastìa, characterized by low houses overlooking the characteristic alleys. Some architectural elements of the original local style remain visible in the existing buildings, including the characteristic lowered arch and the typical circular window.
Chianalea
Chianalea (in Chjanalèa) that is Plain of the Galleys, name of an ancient boat or an archaic synonym of swordfish. Coastal area located on the northern side of the cliff that houses the Castle that divides it from Marina Grande. Chianalea offers only a few meters of beach since almost all of its coast consists of rocks and rocks that make it dangerous and difficult to enter the water. All Chianalea is crossed by a single road that connects it on one side with the port and on the other with the SS18. A pleasant element of the area is the large number of houses built almost all close to the sea, which have earned it the nickname of "little Venice of the South". Finally, the aforementioned port is located halfway between Marina Grande and Chianalea and hosts fishing boats and, during the summer, small and medium-sized pleasure boats.
Marina Grande
This is the area of the beach, bounded, to the south and to the north, by two imposing rock ridges. Another attraction of Marina Grande is the sixteenth-century church of the Spirito Santo, where the painting by Francesco Celebrano is located The Descent of the Holy Spirit (1799)
Jeracari
This is the most recent expansion of the inhabited center, it was formed about thirty years ago and is mainly made up of cooperatives, and there is also the municipal sports field. The neighborhood is separated from the historic center by a small uninhabited area and the cemetery. An area once rich in vineyards, in recent times many condominiums have been built there.
Fractions
They are also fractions of the municipality of Scilla, separated by the four districts of the capital:
- Favazzina, located on the Tyrrhenian coast, a few kilometers north of the municipal capital, is a small and welcoming seaside resort.
- Melia, where agriculture and livestock are flourishing, is located at about 800 m above sea level, in an ideal position due to its proximity to the sea of Scylla (about 15 minutes by car), and to the mountain establishments of Gambarie.
- Solano Superiore, located on the slopes ofAspromonte, is very popular for the mild climate during the summer. It is contiguous to Solano Inferiore, part of the municipality of Bagnara Calabra. Appreciated for the cultivation of potatoes and for the breeding of pigs and goats.

Some local bus companies make stops in and out of the city.
