Tettnang is a city in the region Swabian Lake Constance. The city is about 7 km from Lake Constance on a hill between its tributaries Argen and Schussen. Fruit and especially hops are grown in the surrounding area.

background

Tettnang was first mentioned in a document in 882. The place came into the possession of the Counts of Montfort in 1260 and received city rights in 1297. Under their rule, the Old Palace was built in 1667, and the New Palace was built between 1712 and 1720. After a devastating fire it was rebuilt in 1753, but only a few years later the heavily indebted counts had to sell their residence: in 1780 Tettnang came into the possession of the Habsburgs and thus to Austria. In 1805 Tettnang became Bavarian, but in 1810 the city became part of Württemberg.

The formerly independent communities belong to Tettnang Chew, Tannau and Langnau as well as several hamlets and farms.
