The Leipzig Halle Airport (LEJ) is approx. 70–80 km away, for which you need approx. 1½ hours by train (change in Halle or Leipzig, depending on the destination).

The little one is just as far away Erfurt-Weimar Airport (ERF), but far fewer flights land there.

By train

Two railway lines run through the Thuringian Tuscany: in Bad Sulza regional express trains stop every two hours Erfurt (Travel time 30 minutes) and Leipzig (just under an hour) as well as regional trains Eisenach (1½ hours), Erfurt (35 minutes) and Hall (55 minutes). The regional trains also stop in Großheringen and Niedertreba. The other route runs through Camburg and Dornburg. The Stadt-Express from Leipzig stops there every two hours (1 hour), Jena (15 minutes) and Saalfeld (50 minutes) as well as regional trains from Jena, Saalfeld (each with the same travel times) and Naumburg (20 minutes). There is also an RB line - the so-called "peppermint railway" - which is served every two hours Sömmerda in the Thuringian Basin to Auerstedt, Bad Sulza Nord and Großheringen (total travel time 50 minutes).

The nearest long-distance train stations are Naumburg (only individual IC trains on the Leipzig – Kassel – Düsseldorf or Leipzig – Nuremberg – Stuttgart lines), Erfurt (ICE lines Hamburg – Berlin – Munich, Berlin – Frankfurt (Main) and Frankfurt – Leipzig), Halle and Leipzig.

The semester ticket of the University of Jena is valid up to Großheringen on the border between Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt.

In the street

In the east the B 88 connects Jena with Naumburg and in the west the B 87 Apolda with Naumburg.

By bicycle

The Saaleradweg leads through the middle of the region (past Dornburg and Camburg). It is approx. 20 km from Jena and 25 km from Naumburg. Furthermore, the Ilmtal cycle path of Weimar to the Thuringian Tuscany (approx. 40 km). Also the western route of the Saale-Unstrut-Elster-Radacht (SUE-8) leads, coming from Naumburg, near Bad Sulza and Großheringen through the Thuringian Tuscany.

Thuringian Tuscany is covered by the tariff area of Verkehrsverbund Mittelthüringen (VMT) covered. Association tickets are therefore also valid in city buses and trams, as is the Saxony (Saxony-Anhalt / Thuringia) ticket.

In view of the sporadic use of buses, the bicycle is the recommended means of transportation. This is also the best way to enjoy the idyllic landscape. There are various signposted cycle routes, above all the Saale and Ilmtal cycle paths.

Rococo castle Dornburg
