background

Triefenstein market was created in 1978 through the merger of the formerly independent communities Homburg, Lengfurt, Rettersheim and Trennfeld. The place name is reminiscent of the former Triefenstein monastery.

Triefenstein Monastery

The Triefenstein Monastery is located opposite Lengfurt on the right side of the Main in the district of Trennfeld. Its name is derived from a rock in the Klingenbach Gorge, over which water "drips" all year round. It was founded in 1102 and dissolved during the secularization in 1803. Today it is a Protestant guest house Brotherhood of Christ Bearers.

Lengfurt am Main

Lengfurt lies on the left bank of the Main and is the seat of the municipal administration of Triefenstein. The ford through the Main mentioned in the place name was used by Napoleon and his army on the reg to Russia. The first bridge was opened in 1904, the current Main Bridge dates from 1954. Lengfurt is also known as a wine-growing community.

Homburg am Main

Homburg is a little further down the Main, and between Lengfurt and Homburg are on the Kallmuth excellent wines grown. Above Homburg is the castle with a beautiful view over the Mainschleife.

Trennfeld on the Main

Across from Homburg is Trennfeld on the right bank of the Main. The mining of sand and gravel resulted in the Klostersee.

Rettersheim

The district is the only one a little away from the Main, the motorway runs between Trennfeld and Rettersheim A3.
