What see
- Church of San Giovanni (Sankt-Johann-Kirche). The 1220 building is in Romanesque style and made use of some existing wall elements of a former Benedictine monastery mentioned in the 9th century and destroyed around 1130. The plan of the church, which is well preserved in its genre, has the typical form of a Greek cross, and inside there are Romanesque frescoes from 1220-1230 and Gothic from 1383.
- Indeed, even before 1220 most of the church of San Giovanni in Val Monastero had already been essentially built.
- On the western forepart there is a facade of ashlars and a large door with three lowered arches. The central part of the complex is accessible through a porch built on two floors.
- From 1300 the upper portico served as a dormitory and the lower one as a living room for the pilgrims of the hospice directed by the Gerosolimitano Order. The sacristy and the houses were also part of the hospice, and retain an extraordinary cycle of frescoes
- The fresco of St. Christopher on the north side, which is at the same time the oldest portrait of the saint in Tyrol, gave this chapel its name. It is not only the oldest portrait but also the largest image of San Cristoforo in the entire Alpine arc.
- The widely preserved Romanesque frescoes on the south wall and on the vaulted ceiling illustrate among other things the baptism of Jesus, Moses as lawgiver, Christ between Mary and John, as well as many knights, princes, nobles and peasants are all by the same artist of the Val Venosta.
- In the upper atrium there is a cycle of Gothic frescoes from the end of the 14th century. In the 17th century the church was in the possession of the Hendl Counts and around 1837 the former hospice of San Giovanni was bought by the municipality of Tubre.
- Hospice of San Giovanni. The town of Tubre has ancient roots, and since Roman times it was a transit place between the rich rock salt deposits of Switzerland and Italy, and for this reason the road took the name of Via del Sale.
- In the Middle Ages, the gentle grassy basin watched by imposing mountains saw the passage of pilgrims who went to Chur, to whose diocese it belonged, like the whole Val Venosta after all. It was therefore logical that a hospice was erected in this place, fortunately handed down almost intact to us and dedicated to St. John, saint of the Catholic Church and patron of the Knights Hospitallers.
- Built in the 8th century, it contains frescoes from the Romanesque period, depicting a peacock, an ideal architectural plant that refers to the Celestial Jerusalem, a two-faced eagle of clear Byzantine influence. The two heads respectively symbolized the East and the West and in a box there is a small narcissistic concession to the anonymous painter: a hand intent on frescoing.
- Other frescoes are later, from the Gothic period, including the highest (4 m.) And the oldest San Cristoforo del Tyrol.
- The stone stoup set on the facade overlooking the street is of considerable interest.
- But the strong point of the Church is there Black Madonna and Child that welcomes the visitor in the lunette above the door.
- The unusual shade of dark gray or black used traces the model of the “Black Madonnas” to the symbolism of many pagan female deities, among which Isis and Cybele are remembered, in an ageless age, in which black was a positive color. In fact, in ancient times it was considered a bearer of life and well-being and many myths that speak of the formation of the Universe approach the black indistinct primordial, archetype of Chaos and of the Principle, later connected to the Great Mothers of the Earth.
- Thus the symbols transmigrate, until they are incorporated from the Byzantine East to the figure of the Madonna. From Byzantium to the West the step is short, and among other things this Madonna of Tubre is the only one existing in Trentino-Alto Adige.
- Chapel of San Michele. This small church is located near the cemetery and since June 2000 it has housed the parish museum. Inside, the chapel houses 15th century frescoes placed above the gothic altar with doors; you can then see some wooden sculptures that come from eight churches in the country.
- 1 Parish Church of San Biagio, via della Chiesa. The date of the construction of this church is not known, but it was mentioned as early as 1201. In 1660 the church was demolished and rebuilt. The blessing of the church took place in 1663.
- Rotund Castle. It was built around 900, initially owned by the nobles of Rotund, it was then sold to Heinrich of Reichenberg. Later it passed to the barons of Schlandersberg and Hendl, until the last owner, who still owns it today, Baron von Heydorf.
- Reichenberg Castle. It was initially owned by the bishops of Chur, and around the twelfth century it became the property of the lords of Reichenberg, who gave it this name.
