Geographical notes

Located in the Po valley on the right of the Delmona canal, in the northern part of the district Oglio Po, a short distance from the Oglio, is 18 km away. from Casalmaggiore, 30 from Cremona, 30 from Viadana.

Background

Probably already inhabited by the Romans, in the past it was then called Aldendum, that is, land of aldi, semi-free men according to Lombard customs. They were probably entrusted with the task of cultivating the territory around the sixth century after Christ. In the 10th century it was owned by the Benedictine monastery of Nonantola.

Its events often depended on those of neighboring towns, such as Piadena is Halyard. In the fourteenth century the village was involved in the struggles between Guelphs and Ghibellines; in fact in 1306 it suffered devastation by the Mantuan and Brescia people as a retaliation against the Cremonese Ghibellines. It had many infeudations: the Sanseverinos, the princes of Stigliano and, towards the end of the seventeenth century, the Heralds who had it together with Piadena it's at Halyard.

San Micheal
  • 1 Parish Church of San Michele. The current appearance is the result of a late nineteenth-century refurbishment. The façade has two orders with a tympanum overlooking a mullioned window with a round arch. The interior has a single nave and preserves a late Renaissance statue.
  • Casalini Villa. The Casalini villa consists of a seventeenth-century nucleus and a rustic courtyard that incorporates the remains of a previous fortress. A fifteenth-century tower is still visible.
