The Swiss Autobahn 3 (A 3) continues the French autoroute A 35 (Autoroute des Cicognes), crosses the French-Swiss border at Saint-Louis and runs roughly parallel to this to the Rhine. After crossing it, she meets the meadow at the junction Autobahn 2 and runs together with this to the Augst branch. It runs roughly parallel to the Upper Rhine and turns to the southeast at Eiken and crosses the Swiss Jura in the Bözberg tunnel. South from Brugg the Aare is crossed. At the Birrfeld junction, the A 3 meets the [[Autobahn 1 (Switzerland) | Autobahn 1 with which it joins to the Limmattal junction west of Zurich leads. From there on it runs together with the Autobahn 4 Passing south-west of Zurich, separates from the A 4 at the Zurich-West junction and leads through the almost 4.5 km long Uetliberg tunnel in the direction of Lake Zurich, on the western bank of which it meets at the junction Zurich-South on a branch motorway coming from downtown Zurich. As an extension, it leads along the south-west bank of the lake to the Reichenburg junction, where the Autobahn 15 (Oberlandautobahn, formerly A 53) to the north. The A3 continues to the east, runs along the northern edge of the canton Glarus and further on the south bank of the Walensee, whereby the southern carriageway uses the Kerenzerberg tunnel over a length of 5.8 km. From the eastern end of the Walensee, the A3 runs through the Sargans valley furrow to the Sarganserland junction, where it joins the Autobahn 13 ends.
