Batumi is the capital of the Autonomous Republic ofAjara in Georgia. Its coastal location and subtropical climate make it a popular city for vacationers in the Caucasus. It is the party capital of the region with the nightlife to match it and which increasingly includes big name international DJs in beachfront clubs. Expect to party on the beaches with Russians, Armenians, Azerbaijanis, Turks and, of course, Georgians.

Batumi and its surroundings is one of the major tourist and resort areas on the Georgian Black Sea coast. The climate is humid subtropical. The annual difference in average temperatures, with a mild winter and a hot summer is a feature of the city as well as of the Georgian coast. The mean annual temperature is 14.5 ° C. The average temperature in January, the coldest month, is 7.1 ° C and in August, the hottest month of 23.2 ° C. Annual precipitation is 2 560 mm. Showers are frequent. It rarely snows, but when it does, the snow melts quickly. The mean annual sea temperature is 16.7 ° C on the coast.

Languages

The official language and the majority language is Georgian, theEnglish, the Russian and the Turkish are also commonly spoken. Russian is spoken by most older Georgians, while English is spoken by many young people. Also, due to the large number of Turkish tourists, it is not uncommon for locals to speak Turkish, or at least basic phrases.

By bus

There are regular bus and marchroutkas (minibus) connections between Batumi and Tbilisi. The journey takes about h and the price is 18 GEL. The scenery on the road is breathtaking. Daily buses run between Batumi and Trabzon in Turkey with stop at Rize and a border crossing at Sarpi. Make sure you have all the necessary documents.

There are two bus stations for the departure of the marchroutkas. One for long distance travel for Kutaisi, Tbilisi, Poti... The other in Tbilisi Square to go to Sarpi (2 GEL, 20 min).
