Büsum is a port and seaside resort on the North Sea coast of Dithmarschen in Schleswig-Holstein.
background
Büsum is a small port town north of the Meldorfer Bay in Dithmarschen. The somewhat quieter places are on the outskirts of Büsum Büsumer Deichhausen and Westerdeichstrich, which are particularly known for soft tourism. In contrast to the northern one Sankt Peter-Ording it's a bit more contemplative here. But it is the third largest tourist resort on the Schleswig-Holstein North Sea coast, the most important center of tourism in the Dithmarschen district and a seaside resort since the 19th century. The community is particularly characterized by tourism, the excursion and fishing port in the middle of the village characterizes the townscape; the Büsum crabs landed there are also known nationwide. The port is connected to the open sea by the Piep ocean current, which runs through the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park. If there is a risk of a storm surge, water levels are more than 1 meter above Normal height zero the port is protected by a barrage.
Büsum was first mentioned in a document as early as 1140. The current place with the St. Clemens Church is built on a long rectangular wurt of the Middle Ages. Büsum has been closely associated with tourism since the 19th century and has been significantly influenced by it since the 20th century. Even massive interventions by the National Socialists obviously did not damage tourism.

- For the journey to Büsum by road from the west of Germany, the following ship connections (ferries) are also available:
- * 5 Ferry terminal ELBFERRY-Brunsbüttel. After the ferry connection between Cuxhaven and Brunsbüttel, a modern, LNG-powered ferry has been crossing the Elbe every 3 hours since March 1st, 2021 4 Ferry dock in Cuxhaven. The ferry "GREENFERRY I" (ex "FANAFJORD") offers space for 212 cars or 150 cars and 28 trucks and up to 600 people on the approximately 60-minute crossing. The ship invites you to linger with a wonderful view over the river and the green marshland for a mini cruise on the busy Elbe. The ferry connection is also ideal as a connection between the west coast of Schleswig-Holstein and the north of Lower Saxony and Bremerhaven. The Elbe tunnel, which is often affected by traffic jams, on the motorway

By bicycle
The North Sea Cycle Route (Schleswig-Holstein) leads through Büsum. Of Meldorf coming the stage length is about 19 km, to Sankt Peter-Ording it is about 40 km. Both before and after Büsum, the route runs directly on the dike, so that you can choose to drive on the land side or on the outside of the dike. Both routes are paved. In Büsum itself you have to pay to enter the beach area, driving is not allowed here.
mobility
The area around the museum harbor and the town center around the pedestrian zone are closed to cars, and it is difficult to find a parking space in the adjacent streets. It makes sense to use the signposted public parking spaces (P6 e.g. directly at the port, P3 - P5 largely near the Storm surge worlds, P1 north of the village near the dyke museum). There are also numerous smaller parking areas in all local areas.
Cyclists have to push in the area of the Alleestraße (pedestrian zone), even if it is a section of the North Sea Cycle Path.
Tourist Attractions
- The 1 town hall was built in 1915 in neo-baroque forms from red brick. In front of the building is Kaiser-Wilhelm-Platz with a memorial for the fallen from the First and Second World Wars.
- 9 port - There are harbor tours by the shipping company H.G. Rahder offered.
- Today's 2 lighthouse was built in 1912/1913 as a guide and orientation light and is 21.4 meters high. The lighthouse has been operated electrically since it was built and is now operated by the headquarters of the Federal Waterways and Shipping Office in Toenning remotely controlled, so there is no longer a lighthouse keeper. The tower is still an active sea mark and can therefore not be climbed and visited.
- The 3 St. Clement's Church is a sacred building from the 15th century. It is also called the Fischerkirche. The bell tower is free-standing and is located next to the actual church building. In the interior there is a model (votive ship) of the three-master “The mild autumn” hanging from the ceiling. From May to October there are church tours every Thursday at 11:00 a.m. Especially for vacationers, the church offers some interesting ones Events.
- The modern Catholic 4 St. Andrew's Church in the street An der Mühle 60 was inaugurated in 1982 and is open to visitors daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

8 Dike museum, Mittelweide, 25761 Büsum. Three reconstructed dike sections convey the development of dyke construction over the past 800 years. Museum in the open a few 100 m north of the village, accessible by bike via the bike path on the dike.

The protection station looks after the national park and the Wadden Sea World Heritage Site between the Meldorfer Koog and the mouth of the Eider on a coastline of around 40 km. Numerous mudflat tours and a variety of other natural history events are offered. A small exhibition in the container awaits interested visitors in Perlebucht. The exhibition is open daily from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. from April to the beginning of October. provides information about the Wadden Sea National Park.

- The 2 Family lagoon Perlebucht with the dune island offers enough space for digging and sunbathing. A promenade with plenty of space for strolling with and without a handcart leads from the center to the family lagoon. The entrances to the Watt grandstand and also down to the water are barrier-free. Lights embedded in the floor make it easier to walk, even in the dark.

In Büsum there is a wide range of retail stores, so that the usual travel needs should be easy to obtain.
- Around the 1 Pedestrian zone there are shops for clothing and outdoor equipment, drug stores and pharmacies, among other things.
- One 2 Edeka supermarket can be found in the center on Nordseestrasse.
- Several 3 Supermarkets (ALDI, Edeka, Lidl, Kaufhaus Stolz, Bäckerei) have settled on the northern outskirts in the triangle between Heider Strasse and Hafentörn. Sufficient parking spaces are also available there.

- The municipality of Büsum levies a health resort tax to finance numerous services and offers that would otherwise not be available in a place with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants. - The 10 KOHLosseum has its home in the historic building of the old sauerkraut factory. In the cabbage workshop you can experience how the Dithmarscher cabbage is processed into delicious sauerkraut. There is a lot to learn about the production, processing and background - from the head of cabbage to the ingredients. Ancient tools, pattern beds, old contemporary witnesses and picture stories can be viewed in the Kohlmuseum. In the shop, the farmers' market, you will find culinary delights for everything to do with cabbage and care products from our own production.
