What see

Sanctuary of Maria Trens
  • Sanctuary of Maria Trens. Trens is also a place of pilgrimage; in fact here is the miraculous image of "Our Lady of the Avalanches" (Unsere Liebe Frau an der Lahn), an ancient wooden statue of the Madonna standing with the Child, dating back to 1470. The church, in late Gothic style, has a nave from 1498; the left wall, where the Chapel of the Madonna is located, is covered with numerous ex-votos.
  • Parish Church of Stilves. The ancient ecclesiastical center is Stilves which is still the main church of the municipality, dedicated to St. Peter and mentioned for the first time in 827. The interior is decorated in a late Baroque style and the frescoes on the vaults are by Christoph Brandstätter.
  • Parish Church of Mules. The church, which is dedicated to Sant'Osvaldo, dates back to 1329 and is characterized by a massive stone bell tower with a spire roof. The interior frescoes are the work of different artists of the 18th and 19th centuries.
Castel Pietra seen from the north
  • Castel Pietra (Schloss Sprechenstein). It is located in the municipality of Campo di Trens, at the opening to the south of the basin where it stands Sterzing, in front of Castel Tasso; it is in good condition and is inhabited by a noble family of Salzburg, the Auersperg.
It is characterized by being formed by two distinct constructions. In the upper part of the spur there is the round tower, the best known characteristic sign of the castle, with the oldest buildings dating back to the 13th century; closer to the walls stands the later palace (15th century), with the other structure that makes the construction known: the late-Gothic chapel of Sant'Erasmo, completed in 1511.
It was seriously damaged by the bombings of the Second World War, but an intense restoration work has restored its habitability; in fact between 2007 and 2008, there was an expansion of the castle itself, but also of the neighboring structures, where three private apartments, a private house and a dairy were built. Currently the castle cannot be visited.
View of Castel Guelfo
  • Castel Guelfo (Welfenstein). It is located north of the town of Mules, in the municipality of Campo di Trens. Built in the 13th century, it stands on a rock close to the Isarco river, in an ideal position to control local traffic and to pay taxes.
The castle, which had fallen into disrepair, was rebuilt two different times, until in 1880 it was purchased as a private residence by the painter Edgar Meyer.
In 1918 it was destroyed by fire, also losing a precious art collection, but was later rebuilt by the grandson of the first buyer. Currently the castle is privately owned.
On the northern slopes of the castle, near the Isarco river, there is a bunker of the barrage of Mules (work 1); on the other side of the road, above the rock, there is another (work 4).
Castel Tasso
  • Castel Tasso (Schloss Reifenstein). It stands right in front of Castel Pietra, on the other side of the valley. It is one of the oldest, historically important and richest in theSouth Tyrol. The hill on which it was built overlooks a plain obtained from a reclaimed marsh (Sterzinger Moos), on which a small military airport was also built, today used only for tourist purposes.
It was mentioned for the first time in written documents in 1100 as a fief of the Bavarian Counts Lechsgemünd, while from 1140 the fortress was given to the Lords of Stilfes.
In the following centuries, several counts and nobles lived in the manor, until in 1405 the property passed to the family of the Lords of Sabiona (Säben). After their extinction, the castle became a possession of the Duke Sigismund of Austria, who, however, in 1470 sold it to the Teutonic Order, to which much of the current appearance and furnishings are due. Finally, since 1813 it has been owned by the Counts Thurn und Taxis of Regensburg: hence the Italianized name "Tasso" of the castle, used since the 1930s.
Today Castel Tasso is considered one of the most precious castles in South Tyrolean history. Since it was never conquered or devastated, it is still well preserved today and inside we find many objects and antique furniture. The small one is also part of the structure chapel of San Zeno, where eight Baiuvar wooden coffins dating back to the 4th and 8th centuries were found, two of which can be seen in a room of the castle, while the other six are preserved in the South Tyrolean Archaeological Museum with still human remains inside.
Inside Castel Tasso you can visit as many as 10 rooms in perfect condition, including: a large thirteenth-century kitchen with an open fireplace, the old tower, a dark prison 5 meters deep and also the famous and precious "Green room" (Grüner Saal), which also hides various characters in its characteristic green decorations. Among the furnishings are visible stube Tyroleans dating back to the twelfth century.
Guided tours take place from Easter to early November.
