For some decades Darfo, the capital of the municipal area, has changed its official name by adding that of its more famous hamlet of Boario, one of the best known thermal centers not only in Lombardy, but of national fame: the official name has therefore become Darfo Boario Terme, so from transfer also to the municipal capital the great fame of the thermal center of Boario.

The area was already inhabited in prehistoric times, as is confirmed by the rock carvings in the Corni Freschi (Attola) locality, at the foot of the Monticolo, and in the Luine Rock Carvings Municipal Park (today a heritage UNESCO). In the latter place, artefacts from the Bronze Age have also been found.Probably uninhabited in Roman times, this territory was inhabited by the barbarian populations who built necropolis.
