Schilpario is a quiet and orderly center, a holiday destination and an important cross-country ski resort.
Geographical notes
Schilpario is located at over a thousand meters above sea level, on the banks of the river Dezzo, in Scalve Valley.
Background
The first settlements in the area date back to the 3rd century BC. when the Cenomani Gauls used to perform magic rites in this valley.
A village was born during the Roman Empire when the exploitation of the mineral resources of the area began.
The country first passed under the control of the Holy Roman Empire and then under the control of the monks of Tours.
THE Captains of Scalve they established the Scalve University, a small feudal institution very similar to a republic that enjoyed many fiscal privileges.
Only in 1797, with the annexation to the Cisalpine Republic, the town acquired its own municipal autonomy.

What see
- 1 Parish Church of Sant'Antonio. The church was built between 1664 and 1682. on a previous church of 1338 always dedicated to S. Antonio. The facade, facing west, is embellished with an occhialino marble portal and a mullioned window. Inside there are six chapels and paintings made by painters Carpinoni, Cifrondi and Querena. In the main altar there is a sculpture of Cardinal Angelo May, the work of Benzoni.
- Sacred art museum. In the museum, located in the small church of S. Rocco adjacent to the parish church, many finds are exhibited, such as chalices and sacred parameters, which trace the history of the liturgy of the last four hundred years. Among these we remember the monumental bier (a wooden scaffolding covered with wallpaper on which the coffin is placed during funeral ceremonies)
