Dro is a city of Trentino Alto Adige.
To know
It has an ancient aspect, and is traditionally a crossing point between the Garda Trentino area and the city of Trento.
Geographical notes
It is located in the northern area of the plain ofUpper Garda, where once the river Sarca flowed freely and finally flows into the Lake Garda.It is 13 km from Riva del Garda, 27 from Pieve di Ledro, 37 from Molveno, 28 from Rovereto, 29 from Trento.
Background
The area was already colonized in Roman times but the town was mentioned as Dro or de Dro only in 1307. Nicolò d'Arco called him Dronum is Dronium, and later the names were reported Drona is Drone.
Over the centuries, two families had supremacy over the territory: the dei family Sejani linked to the castle called Dos del Castel and which obtained episcopal recognition in the 11th century and, later, the powerful family of Arc.
On October 15, 1810, a fire caused extensive damage to historic buildings.

What see
- Parish of the Immaculate Conception. It was built by Don Girolamo Canestrini in 1836, and has a single wide nave. The apse was decorated in 1910.
- Church of Saints Sisinio, Martirio and Alessandro. The church is currently deconsecrated, and has one of the most interesting minor Romanesque portals in Trentino.
- Church of S. Antonio da Padova. The church dates back to 1667, and was built by the Magnificent Community of Dro and Ceniga. It rises on the southern edge of the urban center. It was thanks to this church that the village of Dro was saved from the looting carried out by the French troops of the Duke of Vendôme, very devoted to the saint, in 1703.
- Toresela (Lutterotti House), via della Torre. Located near the town hall, it is the rest of the tower probably guarding the northern part of the town.
Site of naturalistic interest
- Marocche Biotope of Dro. It extends north of Dro and is the largest steep slope in the Alps of glacial origin; it represents a unique landscape for geological and morphological interest. Huge boulders, up to 250 meters high, line the Sarca river and the countryside. In the Habsburg period, reforestation was attempted with black pine and Aleppo pine.
