Adige Valley - Etschtal

The Etschtal (Italian: Valle dell’Adige or Val d’Adige) in South-Tirol describes the valley of the Adige from Meran to Bolzano. The mild alpine valley is an ancient cultural area, main traffic artery, wine-growing area and an important tourist region.

The course of the Adige river in South Tyrol is divided into three large sections:

  • The Vinschgau, the valley system on the upper reaches of the Adige;
  • The middle part, referred to in South Tyrol as Etschtal, that is the range of Meran (325 m) to after Bolzano (232 m) to the confluence of the Eisack from the Wipptal;

The Adige Valley region is a mild alpine valley, created by the glaciers of the Ice Age. On the west side the slopes of the Ortler Alps on, on the east side the Sarntal Alps.

Train & bike

The EventCard includes the day train journey on the Bolzano-Meran-Mals route and a rental bike with a helmet. It is available from all bike rentals on the railway line, from ticket machines, in the Vinschgau tourism associations and at other sales points that are marked with the transport association's logo. There are bike rentals at seven train stations on the Bozen - Meran - Mals line in Bozen Süd, Meran (goods station area), Naturns, Latsch, Schlanders, Spondinig and Mals. Then there is the rental on the Reschen. Bicycles can be rented and returned everywhere. There are over 1000 bikes available, such as mountain bikes, city bikes, trekking bikes, children's bikes and 10 tandems.
