The great Spreewald tour

85 km

The great Spreewald tour is a beautiful full-day excursion that opens up a large part of the Oberspreewald. You leave Cottbus in a north-westerly direction and cross the villages of Briesen and Guhrow and approach the Spree at Schmogrow. Continue on the embankment of the Spree until the cycle path branches off to the left in the direction of the castle. Follow this for a while and continue on the Nordweg and the Ringchaussee to the Buschmühle. If you want to take a break beforehand, or want to catch a glimpse of the surroundings from the Bismarck Tower, do not turn straight onto the Nordweg when coming from the Spree, but continue straight ahead and make a detour of about one kilometer to the tower and the Bismarck tavern . Back to the Buschmühle, continue north to Straupitz. After a short rest and a visit to the Schinkel Church and the Holländermühle, the route continues across the meadows north of the high forest through the villages of Neu Zauche and Alt Zauche. In a wide arc it goes on beautiful paths through the east end of the Oberspreewald to Lübbenau. After visiting the old town center, you continue to the Spreewalddorf Leipe. From here it goes over the Waldschlösschen to Burg. The last stage now takes the traveler via Werben and Briesen back to the starting point, to Cottbus.
Note: The downloadable route described here leads from Lübbenauer Spreewaldhafen directly to Leipe. If you want to see the Lübbenau Castle and the museum village of Lehde, which is well worth seeing, you should take this little arc, it is not such a long detour, but the visit also takes some time.

Small Spreewald tour - excursion to Burg

approx. 40 km

Burg, the eastern gateway to the Spreewald, is only 15 kilometers from Cottbus and is the most popular destination for cycling trips for Cottbus people. In order to avoid the big river and not have to drive the same route twice, after Cottbus and Sielow you finally leave the classic bike path in Briesen and stay north. Behind the church, turn left to the sports field and on a bike that is less known even to the locals to Guhrow. On a public road that is de facto not used, it continues to the Schmogrower weir. From here you follow the Spree downstream to finally come from the north to reach the Burger Bismarck Tower - time for a rest. In the village itself you can still look around and make a few detours into the Spreewald. You return to Cottbus on the well-known and popular bike path via Werben. If you want some peace and quiet, turn left into Penkeweg immediately after the Bismarck Tower and follow it Fürst-Pückler-Weg until after advertising (attention! Wrong signage)

Around the Spremberger reservoir

approx. 60 km

The bike tour is a very popular excursion route, as it also promises a bit of cooling off with a swim on one of the two beaches on the lake. The journey there and back leads on the same bike path. From Cottbus it always goes along the Spree to the southernmost district of Gallinchen. From here on over a few fields through Groß Oßnig to the northwest corner of the lake. Here the path divides and leads once around the entire lake. If you want to avoid a very steep climb at Sellessen, you should circle the lake clockwise. There are two beaches along the tour, in Bagenz and Klein Döbbern. Catering and a campsite are available at both. At Bagenz you also pass a youth hostel. In Bühlow, in the far south, there is the restaurant and guesthouse “Storchennest”. If the journey from Cottbus is too long for you and would like to drive a shorter distance, you can drive to the lake and only drive around there. The best parking facilities are in Bagenz and Klein Döbbern.

Peitz and Teichland

40 km

This tour can be taken as a half-day excursion, but it can also be organized as a family excursion for the whole day. The start is in the Pushkin Park in the center of Cottbus. Always along the Spree, past the Spreewehrmühle, it goes on a leisurely path to the Saspow district. Here you leave the Spree and follow the cycle path to the abandoned former village of Lakoma, which had to give way to the opencast mine. Follow the Hammergraben for a while and then use a beautiful paved path from Willmerdorf, which belongs to the open-cast mine and is no longer used. The path continues at Kiessee Mouse to Neuendorf. The Teichland sports and leisure park invites you to take a break and some adventures for the whole family. A public road with little traffic now leads past the Jänschwalde power plant as well as the Neuendorfer and Hälterteich ponds to Peitz. Shortly after the end of Alte Bahnhofstraße you will find the town's metalworking museum on the left. In the center of Peitz you can take a break and take a short tour of the fortress tower and the market. Shortly after Peitz, the Garkoschke swimming lake is waiting to cool off. From here it goes over the fields with a little distance past the Turnower Holländermühle and the village of Drehnow to the Cottbus district of Maiberg on the Spreeaue. If you have the time, you can also take a short tour through the Spreeaue here. Now it's back to Cottbus via the stork village of Dissen. The GPS track offered ends at the "Cottbus Center" shopping center in the north of the city. To get to the center, just follow the main street.

Excursion to Koselmühle

The Koselmühle
35 km

This half-day tour to the well-known excursion restaurant in the southwest of Cottbus is a classic. It leads from the city center through parks and green spaces to the west, past the airfield to Kolkwitz. Now you drive over a beautiful meadow landscape to the district Putgolla. After a drive through the forest you reach the Koselmühle. The way back is a little longer and leads south on a beautiful bike path to the small village of Koschendorf. Now the only unavoidable piece comes east on a country road to Leuthen. You now head north back to Kolkwitz through the forest. The path to the Ströbitzer bathing lake from Cottbus is unpaved, but it is easy to drive on. Following the railway it goes back to the city center. A short stretch of the path narrows to a narrow path for a short time, but is not a problem.

Options: The tour can be easily expanded. From the Koselmühle you can add trips to the west to Wiesendorf, Wüstenhain or the Gräbendorfer See. In Koschendorf you can turn west again towards Illmersdorf.

Forest excursion (Lausitz) with a few options

83 km

The tour leads to the Neisse town of Forst with its nationally known rose garden. In the center of Cottbus the tour starts in the green Pushkin Park. We continue to Branitz Park with the beautiful Branitz Castle. The cycle path itself follows the "Englischen Allee" - an unpaved forest path. At the end you have to cross the very busy federal road B115. From now on it's going to be cozy. A separate and asphalt bike path leads across woods and meadows through the village of Haasow, the Kathlower Mühle to Klinge. This is where the robber barons gate and the “Zeitsprung” open-air museum are located (see also the article on Wiesengrund). An information board provides information about the Klinge mammoth, which was found here and can now be viewed in Forst. After a look into the recultivated Jänschwalde open-cast mine and the flooded Klinger See, follow the cycle path to the small village of Gosda with its Tiefenkirche and on to Mulknitz. On the way you can find out more about the village of Weißagk at a memorial, which had to give way to the opencast mine. It continues to the Polish border. If you want, you can drive a few kilometers south on the Polish side and visit the remains of the site of the explosive chemical ammunition factory of the Wehrmacht behind the village of Brożek. Everywhere in the forest you can find remains of buildings and bunkers. Back to the border crossing. Cross the Neisse again and drive to the center of Forst. The way back leads via Klein Jamno as well as the well-known Klinge and Hassow. You reach Cottbus again via Dissenchen. If you want to shorten the route, you can omit the trip to Poland completely or manage the return journey with the train of the Ostdeustchen Eisenbahn, which also stops at Klinge station. The downloadable track contains the complete tour, but not the rose garden. This is located in Forst an der Neisse south of the city center.
