The vacation community Cheerfulness is located on the Heiterwanger See and in a widening of the Zwischenentorental between the Lechtal Alps in the south and the Ammergau Alps in the north in the Tyrolean district Except far.

background

In Roman times, the Via Claudia Augusta led through the Zwischenentorental. The name Heiterwangs is mentioned for the first time in 1286 as the settlement “Ayterwanch”, which means something like stinging nettle meadow.

In the Middle Ages, Heiterwang was important as a goods transfer point on the Fernpass route as well as with a horse exchange and post office.

The Heiterwang Lake, known for its abundance of fish, is also of economic importance. In 1576, a prince's court was built in the village by Archduke Ferdinand II, and Emperor Maximilian was also a frequent guest in the village. In addition to the nettle, the municipal coat of arms also features fish.

With the Ausserfernbahn, which opened in 1913, Heiterwang was connected to the rail network, a further step in the development of tourism in the town. Today tourism has its main focus in summer with the possibilities in and on the lake such as rowing, boating, surfing, swimming, diving and fishing.

The Heiterwanger See has two above-ground tributaries, its outflow is the connecting channel to the Plansee, the water quality of both lakes is classified as good.

The edible fish in the lake are grayling, trout, whitefish (whitefish) and char, the fishing license is available on site at Hotel Fischer am See.

The lake can be completely hiked around on a circular route.

In summer, the passenger ships MS Margarethe and MS Wilhelm operate on a circular route with a total of four stops on the Heiterwanger See and Plansee, the stop at the Heiterwanger See is the Hotel Fischer am See.
