Little chronicle

Finds show a permanent settlement near Dormitz as early as 200 to 300 years before Christ. In the following years the Gurgltal and the region around Nassereith became important as a traffic junction on the Fernpass route over the Alps and due to the location on the old salt road over the Holzleitensattel and the Mieminger Plateau to Telfs. The place Dormitz is mentioned for the first time in 1150, then Nassereith in 1350.

The Fernstein Klause is first mentioned in 1288, it was the former customs post on the Fernpassstraße. Around 1580, the two places Dormitz and Nassereith are merged.

In the Middle Ages, the movement of goods, agriculture and ore mining were the most important branches of business, and in the 19th century the Nassereither textile factory was added, which had to close at the end of the 80s of the last century due to competition from low-wage countries.

Regular events

  • Nassereither Schellerlaufen:
The origin of the Schellerlaufens lies in the dark, it is named after the figure of Scheller, who wears three large bells at the back and one at the front, which he then swings in a set sequence of steps so that the clappers hit the top and bottom with a loud roar. There are also other figures such as the sweeper, the scooter and the "Goassl Schnöller" all with the larvae, the wooden masks of great local artists, and dressed in colorful silk robes.
An old ritual after the ringing of the dozen and the climax of the carnival is the fight of the bear against his tormentor, the bear driver.
The whole place is involved in the spectacle: only boys and men are allowed to actively participate in the parade with a mask, the women take care of the making of the costumes and the other carnival utensils.
Takes place every three years, next time on January 24th, 2016;
  • Processions:

The 3 large processions in Nassereith are worth seeing. They take place on Corpus Christi Day and the Sunday of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (2nd Sunday after Corpus Christi) and on the 2nd Sunday in September. The parades are among the most colorful in the country. Numerous figures of saints and flags are carried along. The streets are decorated with flags and trees and the band plays beautiful processional marches.

  • Christmas parade and market:
Every year on the third or fourth Sunday in Advent, the traditional Christkind entry takes place, with dozens of children taking part. The girls as angels and the boys as shepherds. According to the old Nassereither custom, the Christ child is embodied by a second class boy who receives communion in spring. A market has also been held since 2011. The day before the move is also the opening of the crib path. This parade is a real pre-Christmas event for young and old and is the right way to get into the mood for Christmas.
