The tourist community Biberwier is located at the southern end of the Ehrwald valley basin Except far / North Tyrol and is with the backdrop of the Zugspitze and des Wetterstein Mountains a popular destination for skiers in winter and active holidaymakers in summer.

In Roman times the region lies on the Via Claudia Augusta, the place Biberwier is first mentioned in a document in 1287 as "Piberwure", the name is traced back to the then still imitated beavers.

From the end of the 15th century until 1880 mining was carried out on the Silberleithe, there was a lead and zinc smelter and, for a time, a kiln for silver.

The nearest international airports are in innsbruck (Distance about 68 km) and north of Munich the Munich Airport (also "Franz Josef Strauss", distance approx. 140 km)

By train

The next train stations are in Lermoos and Ehrwald, they are on the Ausserfernbahn Garmisch-Partenkirchen (in D) across the Bavarian-Austrian state border into the Ehrwalder Kessel and on via Reutte and Pfronten to Kempten. Private page too KBS 976

In the street

The Fernpass route used to lead directly through Biberwier. With the construction of the Lermoos tunnel and its opening in 1984, the place is completely relieved of through traffic.

The place Biberwier itself is quite clear and stretches along the old Fernpass road to the south up the mountain.

  • Summer toboggan run. With a length of 1.5 km and 165 mH longest in Tyrol; Opening times: June to October; from the middle station to the valley station of the Marienbergbahnen.

Since 2014 - after 13 years - there is again the possibility of looking after yourself in the village (miniM, Kirchplatz 2). The next other shops are in Lermoos and Ehrwald.
