Background

The history of Mezzano does not differ much from that of the rest of Primiero. The archaeological finds show a human presence since the Mesolithic, even if only seasonal and at high altitudes. However, it is only after the year 1000 that the first news about the town and the valley appear, which is already well organized from an administrative point of view: Mezzano was one of the four columelli in which the community of Primiero was divided.

Passed through various dominations, from the second half of the fourteenth century the area entered permanently in the domains of the counts of Tyrol being assigned from 1401 to their feudal lords, the Welsperg. In this period Mezzano was interested in an important immigration of ethnic German miners from Schwaz, while maintaining the prerogatives of an agricultural center. In 1525 its inhabitants took part in the peasant war.

At the beginning of the nineteenth century the population suffered the convulsive years of the Napoleonic and Bavarian occupation. Returning to the Austrian orbit with the Restoration, in this period many mid-people were forced to leave their land to emigrate overseas. After the great war, Mezzano became part of the Kingdom of Italy.

Hence the creation of works of art, always using stacked wood, made by local artists. Each year the exhibition is renewed with the addition of a new stack, to the initial fourteen, located in the characteristic points of the town
