The community Münsing is located on the southeast bank of the Starnberg Lake in Upper Bavaria and is a popular destination for local recreation and artists' residence.

The clustered village of Münsing is located in a hilly landscape rich in meadows on the ridge of a moraine between Lake Starnberg and the Loisach Valley; the nearby Lake Starnberg cannot be seen from Münsing. The municipal area has an area of ​​52.2 km² and borders the entire south-eastern shore of Lake Starnberg for a length of approx. 15 km.

Numerous burial mounds as the oldest evidence of settlement in the region date back to the Hallstatt period around 750 BC. Dated. According to the findings of the Münsingen local historian Pastor Schnell, a clan leader or large farmer named "Munigis" founded the place that was then named "Munigisingen" at the beginning of the 6th century. The first documented evidence for the parish in Münsing dates from 740, in the Middle Ages Münsing was then a farming village and belongs to the Hofmark Ammerland of the Counts of Baumgarten. In Ammerland Castle on the lakeshore, the high nobility enjoyed themselves during the Renaissance and celebrated lively sea festivals in summer.

The tourist boom was in 1854 with the opening of the railway line from Munich to Starnberg. The riverside towns of Ammerland-Münsing and Ambach-Holzhausen could be reached by steamboat from Munich, the beginning of today's tourism.

Since the Bavarian administrative reform in 1818, Münsing has been an independent political municipality.

Other districts of Münsing are Ambach, Ammerland, Attenkam, Degerndorf, Holzhausen, Reichenkam, Saint Heinrich, Weipertshausen and Wimpasing.

Thanks to its attractive location, Münsing was and is also the home of celebrities and well-known actors (Loriot, Christian Tramitz, Heiner Lauterbach), writers (Lorenz Westenrieder, Oskar Maria Graf, Franz Graf von Pocci, Herbert Achternbusch and Patrick Süskind) painter and sculptor;

The Ammerland district is the location for the ARD - crime series "Hubert and Staller" with Christian Tramitz and Helmfried von Lüttichau as provincial police in the leading roles. The first season of the episode aired in late fall 2011.

Ammerland Castle

The castle is often referred to as the Pocci-Schlössl and is located directly on the lake shore in the Ammerland district, it was mentioned as early as the 16th century.
The present complex was built by Caspar Feichtmayr in 1683/85 as a summer palace for the Wittelsbach bishops, the palace chapel dates from the second half of the 17th century.
From 1841 the palace is the personal fief of King Ludwig I to the merited lieutenant general Fabrizio Evaristo Count von Pocci, father of the count Franz Count of Pocci, Court music director and from 1864 chief treasurer. A general renovation took place in 1990, today it is used for condominiums and is not accessible to tourists inside.
