Neckargemünd is a cozy little town at the gates Heidelbergs. The Dilsberg mountain festival, which belongs to the city, is particularly interesting.

The old town of Neckargemünd is located at the confluence of the Elsenz in the Neckar on the left side of the river. The town of Neckargemünd includes Kleingemünd on the opposite side and the towns of Dilsberg, Mückenloch and Waldhilsbach.

Neighboring places are Schönau, Schönbrunn, Wiesenbach, Bammental and Neckarsteinach.

Neckargemünd is on the Neckar Valley Railway. From 1 Neckargemünd railway station one has connections to Heidelberg (approx. 10 min with the S-Bahn) and Heilbronn as well as across the lines S1 and S2 to Mosbach and Osterburken. Also the 2 Neckargemünd-Altstadt station is served by lines S1 and S2.

  • The old town of Neckargemünd is best explored on foot. If you arrive by S-Bahn, it is better to get on "Old Town" stop off and Not at the train station (one stop from Heidelberg to Neckargemünd train station).

Dilsberg

The center of the village is the Mountain fortress Dilsberg. It is surrounded by cozy half-timbered streets.

Tip: If you want to hike up to the mountain festivals, it is best to start your tour from Neckarsteinach. From Neckarsteinach train station, one of the hiking trails leads to the red square up to the mountain fortress. The route runs over the barrage into the collision slope of the Neckar. Here it goes up the wooded slope in bends (approx. 3/4 hour to 1 hour walking time for approx. 2.5 km easy route with 200 meters of altitude).

  • 2  Campsite "Unterm Dilsberg. Across from Neckarsteinach. The place is quite quiet at the Neckarschleuse. The traffic noise is well shielded by the houses in Neckarsteinach. From Neckargemünd city center it is just under 4 km to the square.
