North Bohemia - Nordböhmen

North Bohemia is the part Bohemia, which runs along the Czech-Saxon border on the Ore Mountains over the Bohemian Switzerland of Elbe Sandstone Mountains until Jizera Mountains extends.

By plane

There is no airport with regular scheduled services in the region itself. The closest airports are Prague and Dresden. From Dresden airport you can get to Ústí n. L. by train in just under two hours, from Prague airport by bus and train in just over two hours.

By train

Děčín and Ústí nad Labem are on the international railway line Dresden – Prague. They can be reached every two hours with the Eurocity from Dresden (45–65 minutes), Berlin (approx. 2:45 hours) and Hamburg (a good 5 hours).

In the opposite direction, the Eurocity from Prague takes 1: 10–1: 25 hours to Ústí or Děčín. At a different time to the Eurocity, an express train line of the Czech Railways runs from Prague to Ústí (1:10 hours), Teplice (1½ hours), Chomutov (2:10 hours) and on to Karlovy Vary and Cheb.

Liberec and Hradek nad Nisou can be reached five times a day from Dresden with the Trilex-Express (equivalent to a regional express, runs via Zittau) in around two hours. A connection with a change in Zittau is possible from Cottbus or Görlitz.

By bus

Teplice can be reached with the Bus route 360/398 of Regional transport Dresden (RVD), which runs every two hours, from Dresden Hbf within 1:35 hours (runs via Dippoldiswalde).

From Prague you can take long-distance buses from Flixbus or Regiojet Drive to Liberec (travel time 1:05 hours), Louny, Most or Chomutov (1:45 hours).

In the street

North Bohemia is accessible by car via the German motorway (Dresden – Prague; continues on the Czech side as D8) or via the European roads (Marktredwitz – Cheb – Karlsbad) and E 442 (Karlsbad – Teplice – Ústí – Děčín – Liberec) can be reached. From Central Bohemia (Prague) the highways D8 (direction Ústí) and D10 (direction Mlada Boleslav, Liberec) as well as the still patchy D7 (direction Chomutov) lead to northern Bohemia.

By bicycle

The river runs through Northern Bohemia (Litoměřice, Ústí n.L., Děčín) Elbe cycle path, which is also designated as the European long-distance cycle route EuroVelo 7 (Prague – Dresden).

mobility

Express trains run on the Liberec – Česká Lípa – Děčín – Ústí n.L. and Prague – Ústí n.L. – Chomutov – Karlsbad – Cheb, every two hours. From Ústí to Děčín or Teplice you drive a good quarter of an hour, to Chomutov an hour, to Liberec a little over two hours.

If you want to visit sights outside of the larger cities, it is very advantageous to have your own vehicle.

• Ruins of the high medieval castle Bezděz (Bösig), 22 km northwest of Mladá Boleslav and 28 km southeast of Česká Lípa
• Devil's Wall (Čertova zeď) - natural basalt wall near Osečná (23 km southwest of Liberec)
• Turnov - a small town well worth seeing with a neat market square and town hall, medieval churches, synagogue and Jewish cemetery as well as Hrubý Rohozec Castle
• Děčín: Renaissance castle, Schäferwand (sandstone rock massif above the city and the Elbe)

Combined with boat trips, the hike is impressive Hřensko through the Kamnitzklamm to the Prebischtor(Pravčická brána) through deep gorges and bizarre rock formations.

The Czech Republic is a country of early risers. That is why there is nothing going on in smaller towns during the week.

Fraudsters are warned against fraudsters, especially in the Teplice area. Waving both arms, they pretend to be in dire straits. In this context, the police advise to be extremely careful and suspicious of unknown hitchhikers who fraudulently demand money and offer jewelry or the like as a deposit.

climate

Temperatures by and large remain quite mild in summer and winter. The mountains act as good shields from the cold north winds.
