Nordstemmen is a small town and municipality in Lower Saxony at the transition of the Leinebergland in the north German lowlands. Nordstemmen is especially for the unmistakable, not far from the village Marienburg Castle known.
background
Nordstemmen is in the Metropolitan region Hanover-Braunschweig-Göttingen-Wolfsburg on a leash. With its sugar factory, the only one that has survived from the many sugar factories in the region, it is an important economic center for agricultural businesses in the near and far surrounding area. In the fertile loess soils of the Hildesheimer Börde, on the edge of which lies Nordstemmen, sugar beet thrives extremely well, making it one of the most important crops in the region. Travelers who stay in the place in October or November will notice from the characteristic sweet smell, which then permeates the whole place (depending on the wind direction), whether the annual sugar production has started again.
In addition to the sugar factory, Nordstemmen is mainly due to the Marienburg, the Welfenschloss on the Marienberg not far from the village, known, even if the castle itself is not part of the municipality, but to the approximately 15 km north Pattensen belongs. The border between the counties Hildesheim and Hanover run on the municipal boundary directly below the Marienberg.
The incorporated villages of Adensen, Barnten, Burgstemmen with the Poppenburg Castle, Groß Escherde, Hallerburg, Heyersum, Klein Escherde, Mahlerten and Rössing. The center of Nordstemmen has around 4,900 inhabitants.
The landscape of Nordstemmen lies in a depression between the foothills of the Hildesheim Forest and the Einzelberg Marienberg, on which the Marienburg stands. Thus, strictly speaking, the place is not part of the Leinebergland, but of the Innerstebergland, even if it is on the Leine and not on the Innerste. It opens to the east Hildesheimer Börde.
getting there
By plane
The Hanover Airport(IATA: HAJ) is the nearest international airport.
By train
The 1 Nordstemmen station was originally built as a royal train station. The reception building has been falling into disrepair for years as negotiations between investors and Deutsche Bahn have failed. Unfortunately, the train station is therefore not an attractive place to stay.
The station, whose station building and main platforms are located on an island, is now completely barrier-free thanks to complex ramp systems.

- The (unfortunately decaying) station building, which was built as a reception building for the arrival of members of the royal family to Marienburg Castle.
