Pescopennataro is a center of the Molise.

To know

The country is referred to as the land of stone and the country of fir trees, as in the small town of Molise there are master stonemasons and in the surroundings there are woods of silver firs (woods that reach as far as Abetina di Sant'Angelo del Pesco, at Abetina di Rosello and at Rio Verde waterfalls, but also of spruce, beech and oak. But it is not only the aesthetic value of these woods that makes the area characteristic, it is also their naturalistic value. In fact, the silver fir is a species that has now become rare in the Apennines. It is part of the Authentic Villages of Italy.

The imposing prehistoric collection includes over 1600 artifacts in flint and limestone, many of which are of extraordinary workmanship, testifying to a very refined lithic industry that we could define as highly specialized. These findings testify to the uninterrupted presence around those places of a stable and advanced community that already chipped the stone over half a million years ago. The Stone Museum of Pescopennataro wants to establish itself as a new cultural center of the Region that tends to adapt to the most current museum concepts with proposals for internships, artistic competitions and collaborations between various cultural institutions, including foreign ones.
