Ribeira Brava is a city on Madeira.
background
Ribeira Brava is one of the larger towns on the south coast of Madeira with its own market, a manageable, historically grown and left old town and a stony bay. In terms of traffic, the place is particularly important because the north-south connection in the middle of the island through the tunnel under the Encumeada Pass to Sao Vicente begins.
getting there
Ribeira Brava is practically the traffic junction on the south coast. You can get to in about 30 minutes via the autobahn Funchal, to São Vicente on the north coast and beyond Calheta to the west coast.
By plane
Madeira's only one Santa Cruz Airport Ribeira Brava can be reached in around 40 minutes by motorway.
By bus
The operator Rodoeste connects the place quickly and frequently with the capital Funchal, but also with all other places on the island (sometimes only 1-2 times a day)
In the street
In Ribeira Brava, the coastal highway ER-101 splits into the branch that goes north Sao Vicente and the one that continues up the south coast Calheta follows. Coming from Funchal or the airport, follow the direction Calheta to the next roundabout. There you follow the course of the river straight ahead towards the sea.
By boat
There are marinas in Funchal, Lugar de Baixo (Ponta do Sol) and Calheta Beach.
