Riedenburg is a small town in the district Kelheim in Lower Bavaria.

The picturesque one at the bottom Altmühl at the foot of a reef dolomite rock group, recognized climatic health resort was founded by the burgraves of regensburg founded and came to the Wittelsbach family in 1196, since 1392 the place belonged to the partial duchy of Bavaria-Munich. The town was not raised until 1952. In 1298 there was a pogrom of Jews ("beef pogrom"). The one built by 1846 Ludwig Canal, which connected the Danube to the Main via the Altmühl, remained of little economic importance. The expansion of the one opened in 1992 was more important Main-Danube Canal. Until the regional reform in 1972, Riedenburg was the seat of the district of the same name in the Upper Palatinate, it has belonged to Lower Bavaria ever since. The construction of the new canal has significantly disrupted the relationship to the river landscape.

By train

Since the discontinuation of Ingolstadt coming railway line in 1972 Riedenburg is quite remote from the railway. The next ICE station is Ingolstadt, around 35 km away.

By bus

  • From the train station Saal / Donau (near Kelheim, on the Danube Valley Railway Ingolstadt-Regensburg) you can take the VLK (Verkehrsgemeinschaft Landkreis Kelheim) 1 to Riedenburg large car park.
  • The VLK 22 runs from Ingolstadt Nord to Riedenburg Uferpromenade.

In the street

Of the Federal motorway 9 are there (from Symbol: AS 59 Denkendorf) 18 km to Riedenburg. The journey down over the Altmühl is more scenic, but much further Beilngries and Dietfurt an der Altmühl of the Symbol: AS 58 Altmuehltal. The alternative is this Federal highway 93 (cheap from the Symbol: AS 50 Siegenburg) and further on the federal highway 299 as well as over w: Altmannstein and through the Schambachtal. From Kelheim Riedenburg can be reached quickly from the Altmühauflauf. Of the Federal motorway 3 Nuremberg - Regensburg is best about the Riedenburg Symbol: AS 97 Approached Nittendorf. By bicycle

Riedenburg is on Altmühltal cycle path. Another cycle path leads through the Schambach valley on the abandoned railway line from Ingolstadt.

By boat

Riedenburg is on Main-Danube Canal. The Altmühltal-Personenschiffahrt organizes trips by ship Altmühlperle from Kelheim to Riedenburg.
