Background
The area was already inhabited in the Nuragic era, due to the presence on the territory of the imposing Nuragic sanctuary of Santa Vittoria, whose use by the local populations, with different functions, began in the Neolithic era and continued during the Punic era, Roman and Byzantine.
In the Middle Ages the town belonged to the Giudicato of Cagliari and was part of the curatoria of Siurgus. At the fall of the Giudicato (1258) it passed under the Pisan dominion and from 1324 under the Aragonese one, which granted it the fiefdom to the Carroz family. The town was then incorporated into the marquisate of Mandas, which in 1603 was transformed into a duchy, a fief of the Maza. In the Savoy period the lordship passed to the Tellez-Giron d'Alcantara, from whom it was redeemed in 1839 with the suppression of the feudal system.
