Only a few kilometers from Trapani are the Aegadian Islands of Favignana, Levanzo and Marettimo and the two little islands Formica and Maraone. North of Marsala, on the coast between Punta Algas and Cape San Teodoro, lies the Stagnone lagoon, the largest in Sicily and a nature reserve since 1984. The waters here are shallow and very salty so that over time there are numerous salt marshes and the island longa originated. The lagoon also consists of three more islands: Santa Maria, San Pantaleo and Schola. The island pantelleria in the Strait of Malta, which also belongs to the province, is still quite untouched.
climate
The climate of the province is characterized by mild winter temperatures and long hot summers. Due to the humidity in the area, it is often foggy in summer. The little precipitation that falls is concentrated in the winter months. The temperature rarely falls below 5°C in January and February, while it can reach 45°C in the summer months, June, July and August.
