History

The Aegadian Islands were already inhabited in prehistoric times when they were still connected to the mainland. Wood carvings and paintings from the Paleolithic era have been found in the Grotta del Genovese on Levanzo. The Egadi Islands were the scene of the final battle between the fleets of Carthage and the Roman Republic in 241 BC during the First Punic War. This battle ended with a victory of the Romans. The climate on the Aegadian Islands is characterized by mild winter temperatures and long hot summers. The little precipitation that falls is concentrated in the winter months. Flora and fauna
