The community Unsleben lies in the valley of the litter in the north Lower Franconia. This is especially interesting for visitors Unsleben moated castle.
background
The first settlement was probably already in the 4th / 5th. Century, the place is then mentioned for the first time in 1162.
The local Jewish community is worth mentioning. It was specifically settled by the lords of the castle from the 17th century and in the 19th century made up about a quarter of the total population of around 1000 people at that time. As entrepreneurs, traders or craftsmen, the Jews played a large part in the development of the town. For various reasons, the relationship with the local Christian inhabitants was never completely free of tension. The first wave of local Jews emigrated to the USA as early as the 19th century: at the end of 1839, the Jewish community in Cleveland/United States founded by Jews from Unsleben. National Socialism and the November pogroms 1938 were then the end of the Jewish community in the village: some of the Unsleben Jews were able to flee, the Jewish community in new Yorker district Queens goes back to the establishment of Unsleben emigrants in the early 1940s. The remaining Jews were deported to concentration camps. In the former synagogue is now the Village barn housed (see also the Web links).
The independent community Unsleben is today a small center with over 300 jobs in industry and craft (veneer works, brickworks) and belongs to the Heustreu administrative community.

- 2 Unsleben moated castle, Schloßgasse 22, 97618 Unsleben (on the northeastern outskirts). Tel.: 49 (0)9773 8997255. The facility consists of the castle-like moated castle with the external dimensions approx. 35 x 40 meters and the completely enclosing moat with a width of over 10 meters and an access bridge. A manor belongs to the moated castle. The moated castle has its beginnings in a medieval castle, around 1160 a Helwicus de Usleybe is mentioned. Probably the castle was in disputes between the Count of Henneberg and the Bishop of Würzburg and is partially destroyed and rebuilt. During the Peasants' War on Easter Monday 1525, the castle was looted by the farmers of the Bildhäuser Haufen and destroyed again, but was rebuilt immediately afterwards. In 1560, under Wilhelm von Truchsess, the east wing (half-timbered structure) was added, in 1613 extensive expansions followed, the complex changed hands repeatedly and was renovated in the modern era. The castle is inhabited by the count's family and is only accessible to visitors inside by appointment and on special occasions, there are some holiday apartments. The estate, located south of the castle, is mostly accessible to pedestrians.
