The municipality of Waltenhofen is located in the tourist region Allgäu Lake District. The main town and administrative seat is in Waltenhofen. The district of Hegge is located north of it and is a residential and industrial area on the outskirts of Kempten. In the south of the municipality is the Niedersonthofener See, also briefly Niso called. The Waltenhof districts of Martinszell, Memhölz and Niedersonthofen as well as several other villages, hamlets and farms are grouped around it and form this Recreation area Niedersonthofener See.

anecdote Anna Schwegelin, the last witch
Langenegg Castle served as a breeding and poor house from 1734. From 1771 on, the maid lived in this castle Anna Maria Schwegelinuntil she was denounced as a witch in 1775 and sentenced to death in Kempten. Today it is believed that the sentence was not carried out. Accordingly, she died in 1781, but is considered the last victim of the witch hunt in Germany.
