Weißenstadt lies in a depression of the Fichtelgebirge, surrounded in the north by the Waldstein (877 m) and in the south by the Rudolfstein (866 m). Weißenstadt is the first place on the Eger, which then over Market people and Hohenberg flows to the Czech Republic. To the west of the city, the Eger flows through the Weißenstädter See, which was created in 1976.

The nearest train station is 9 km to the east Röslau on the railway line from Hof to Regensburg.

From Weißenstadt you drive to Schönlind and then continue in the direction of the mountains Bischofsgrün. Shortly before the highest point of the road there is a parking lot on the right, from where a 200 m long footpath leads to Egerquelle leads. The Eger spring was captured in 1923 and contains an inscription:

- Kirchenlamitz (8 km north) - city on the river Lamitz; nearby the castle ruins of Epprechtstein.
- Bischofsgrün (10 km to the south-west, via Schönlind and the Eger spring mentioned) - a holiday destination between Ochsenkopf and Schneeberg; not far outside a summer toboggan run.
- Gefrees (11 km to the west) - on the southern edge of the Münchberger plateau and on the border to the Natupark Fichtelgebirge small town; Folk and meadow festival in July.
- Market people (12 km northeast, via Kirchenlamitz) - second town on the upper reaches of the Eger; Protestant parish church of St. Nicholas.
- Wunsiedel (14 km southeast) - district town of the district of the same name; In the immediate vicinity of the city two outstanding sights: the Fichtelgebirgsmuseum and the Luisenburg rock labyrinth.
- Münchberg (16 km northwest, via Sparneck and Weißdorf) - located on the A 9; left and right of the city of Fichtelgebirge and Franconian Forest; known as the location of the textile industry.
