By taxi

Taking a taxi to the city center is expensive: € 90 (flat rate for a City-Airport trip, without further stops). Only taxis registered in Milan have joined the fixed rate agreement; the taxis of the outlying cities (which you will also find in Malpensa) have not signed the agreement and will take you to Milan, but will charge you for the meter reading (generally € 80 or more with light traffic).

If entering a taxi you do not see a card on the window or on the back of the driver / passenger seats, then you are in a non-Milanese taxi. You can request the flat rate and, if the driver refuses, take the next taxi in the ranking. You may find that if you take the flat rate from a non-Milanese taxi, then they take a slower non-toll road rather than the toll freeway (tolls are ALWAYS paid by the driver, so they are included in the meter or flat rate).

Fixed fares include all surcharges, night and holiday surcharges, but can only be applied if the trip does not include intermediate stops. Otherwise, the total price indicated by the taximeter will be applied.

Other destinations:

  • From / to exhibition area (Fiera di Milano / Rho) - 60 €
  • From / to Linate airport - € 100
  • From / to Varese - 65 €

For more information on taxi fares, see this site.

The taxi ranks are located in the arrivals area, on the ground floor. Gate # 6 for Terminal 1 and Gate # 4 for Terminal 2.

How to move between the two terminals

The two terminals are connected by a free shuttle service (Line A) which takes about 10 minutes. According to the signal at the bus stop at Terminal 1, this service runs every 7 minutes between 05:46 and 22:34, then every 30 minutes between 23:07 and 05:37. These times should only be considered a rough guideline - expect some waiting time. The shuttles are very small and the frequency is inadequate: long queues tend to form, causing several taxi drivers to stop right next to the stop and pick up those passengers who don't want to wait. It is not uncommon for passengers to wait up to 40–45 minutes for transfers - most shuttles are full, forcing passengers to wait for the next one.

You can also take this free shuttle if you need to go to one of the hotels in the small village between Terminal 1 and 2. Get off at the Case Nuove stop, which is the second stop from Terminal 1 right after the stop called Handling.

Check in

  • Terminal 1: the check-in desks are located on the 3rd floor, the doors (gates) on the 2nd floor.
  • Terminal 2: check-in and arrivals desks are on the ground floor. The departure gates are on the 1st floor.

Private transfers

If you are traveling with a family of more than 4 people or if you want to travel in a premium vehicle, it is worth booking a private transfer. Private transfers are more expensive than taxis but include a meet and greet service (the driver waits for a group in the arrivals hall with a sign) and usually handles mid- or high-end cars.

Another option for people who travel frequently to Milan is the car sharing via E-go. First you need to join the car sharing program on the website Go-go. Once registered, choose between two formulas:

  • Silver: occasional users; it has no fixed subscription costs but each rental costs € 5 more than Gold subscribers.

Subscriptions are valid for one year and require an identity card. The service operates 24 hours a day and you must reserve the vehicle at least 20 minutes before your arrival. More information and rates on the website of theMalpensa airport.
