Background
The territory of Albareto has returned Etruscan and Ligurian finds, thus also testifying its close ties with the Ligurian and Tuscan territories for antiquity. The most significant find is an Etruscan funerary stone kept in the Archaeological Hall of the Seminary of Bedonia. Albareto belonged to the Diocese of Luni, then, when the latter disappeared, to the diocese of Sarzana. After the domination of the Goths, Byzantines and Lombards, it was given to the Monastery of San Colombano di Bobbio.
In the Middle Ages the town followed the fate of Borgotaro; it was however in the economic orbit of Varese Ligure, a possession of the Fieschis, a center with which it maintained close social relations especially when the Fieschis were masters of Borgotaro for a certain period. To signify the influence that this family had on Albareto the colors of the Fieschi - red and silver bands appear in the town's municipal coat of arms.
The twentieth century, in addition to wars, brought the phenomenon of emigration, common to the whole Valtaro. The second post-war period saw the economic recovery and the emergence of a moderate tourist development of summer climatic stay which gave the country a certain economic security and good development.

Originally military bulwarks, many of them have kept the appearance of an inaccessible fortress, many have gradually transformed their war nature into a refined noble residence; all perpetuate over time the atmosphere of adventure, fairytale and legend that has always been linked to castles, many of which tell of the presence of spirits and ghosts.
