Urban centers
- L'Aquila - Fountain of the 99 spouts, National Museum of Abruzzo, Spanish Fort, Basilica of Santa Maria di Collemaggio - (with the remains of Pope Celestine V - severely damaged by the 2009 earthquake).
- Avezzano - Marsi Cathedral, Orsini-Colonna Castle, Aia dei Musei, Villa Torlonia, Cunicoli di Claudio, Monte Salviano guided nature reserve.
- Celano - Piccolomini Castle, Marsica Sacred Art Museum, Le Paludi Prehistoric Museum, Santa Maria Valleverde Church-Convent, Celano Gorges.
- Guardiagrele - It has an important historical center, with churches and buildings of great interest. It is famous for craftsmanship in metalworking. It is part of the most beautiful villages in Italy.
- Manoppello - Holy Face of Manoppello.
- Pens - Ancient capital of the Vestini family, it retains a good historic center.
- Peoples - It was the largest fortress of the Cantelmo domains in Abruzzo, guarding the Aterno, Sagittario and Pescara valleys; she was called the key of the three Abruzzi as an obligatory stop and a traffic junction between the coast and the inland areas towards Florence, Rome is Naples.
- Sulmona - Cathedral of San Panfilo, Annunziata Complex, Badia Morronese, Hermitage of Sant'Onofrio al Morrone, Sanctuary of Ercole Curino.
- Tagliacozzo - Piazza dell'Obelisco, Sanctuary of the Madonna dell'Oriente, Church, convent and cloister of San Francesco, Talia Theater, Palazzo Ducale.
- Teramo - Cathedral, Madonna delle Grazie.

- Atessa - The inhabited area winds on the top of a relief with a crescent-shaped plan. It boasts a historic center with city walls and gates dotted with numerous ancient churches.
- Calascio
- Civitella del Tronto - Perched on a ridge, it offers us the spectacle of its fortifications which are among the best preserved and the largest in Europe; it was the last stronghold to surrender, when the rest of the Bourbon kingdom had already been conquered from Italy.

By car
Two motorways affect the Apennine Abruzzo:
- A24 motorway: connects the region and precisely the city of Teramo with Rome and all of Lazio passing through L'Aquila.
- A25 motorway: connects the region with Lazio, precisely the city of Pescara with Rome.
The Apennine towns of the region can also be easily accessed with the Adriatic highway that runs along the coast:
- Highway A14: the main roads that go up the Apennine valleys leave the seaside resorts.
How to get around
What see
- Abbey of Santa Maria di Collemaggio (toEagle). One of the symbols of the city and one of the most beautiful churches in the region; severely damaged by the earthquake, it is undergoing massive recovery works.
- Strong Spanish (toEagle). A mighty sixteenth-century fortress, it houses the National Museum of Abruzzo
- Church of San Bernardino (toEagle). Erected in the fifteenth century, it dominates from a high staircase; admirably recovered after the damage of the earthquake, it is once again accessible.
- Church of Santa Maria (to Bominaco). Romanesque construction of great interest, it dates back to between the 11th and 12th centuries, preserves capitals, ambo, ciborium, Easter candelabrum.
- Church of San Pellegrino (to Bominaco). It was built in 1263 in Romanesque style with a three-arched portico; the interior is completely covered with Byzantine frescoes.
