Large castle and castle courtyard

The castle is located on the southern outskirts of Aschach. The complex has its beginnings as a medieval castle, which was built in the 12th century by the Counts of Henneberg. The castle changed hands several times in the Middle Ages.

After it was destroyed during the Peasant Wars and the Margravial War in the 16th century, the Würzburg prince-bishops rebuilt the complex, and Aschach became the hunting lodge and administrative seat of the prince-bishops. Most of the building fabric, which is well preserved to this day, dates from this time.

In the period from 1829 to 1864, the Schweinfurt industrialist Willhelm Sattler ran an "English porcelain factory" with kilns in Aschach Castle. From 1874, Aschach served as the summer palace of the Count of Luxburg, who was then the district president of Lower Franconia. He dismantled the commercial installations with the kilns.

In 1955 the castle with all its furnishings and valuable collections came as a gift from the owner Dr. Karl-Ludwig Graf von Luxburg, Prince of Carolath-Beuthen and Prince von Schoenaich-Carolath, formerly German Ambassador, came into the possession of the Lower Franconia district.
