Bad Düben is mentioned as the property of the Archbishopric of Magdeburg as early as the 10th century. The castle, previously the seat of burgraves, was conquered by Count Wiprecht von Groitzsch in 1117. On September 4, 1631, King Gustav Adolf of Sweden and Elector Johann Georg I of Saxony concluded the alliance against the Emperor and the League here. During the Seven Years' War, the Prussians under Fink and Wunsch attacked the Ahrenberg Corps here on October 29, 1759 and forced it to withdraw as quickly as possible.
