Debki (German Dembeck) is a seaside resort in Poland in the voivodeship Pomerania at the Slowinsian coast, the central part of the Polish Baltic coast. You shouldn't go with the place Dąbki confuse, which is also on the Polish Baltic coast.

background

The place is quite small and manageable. It is therefore particularly suitable for tourists who are looking for peace and relaxation on the beach and in nature away from the hustle and bustle.

After the First World War, the German-Polish border ran west of the town on the river Piaśnicawho the Zarnowitz Lake drained into the Baltic Sea. Even before the First Partition of Poland in 1772, the place belonged to Poland-Lithuania.

About 300 meters north of the mouth of the Piaśnica, the English three-master "General Carleton" sank during a storm on September 27, 1785 with the captain William Hustler and a crew of 18, of which only three sailors could save themselves. The wreck, which is actually in shallow water, could only be found in 1989 by Michał Woźniewski, who dived at this point after receiving advice from fishermen that their nets are constantly getting caught here. A total of around 700 items were recovered from the wreck between 1995 and 1998 - including the ship's bell with the inscription "General Carleton of Whitby 1777" - and can now be seen in the National Museum in Gdansk. According to an old legend, however, a subtle Kashubian from the village visited the wreck in the 18th century and recovered its treasures during several night trips, drove up the Piaśnica and buried it in the dunes. Since the landscape of the dunes was constantly changing due to the influence of wind and weather, after years when he wanted to collect the treasures, he could no longer find the location of the hiding place. And so the gold and silver of the "General Carleton" is said to continue to be somewhere in the dunes on the Piaśnica.

security

The Baltic coast usually falls flat under water and there are hardly any tides or unpredictable currents. The Jarmunder See is also shallow. Bathing is therefore usually safe for families with children and swimming accidents are rare. When swimming accidents do occur, excessive alcohol or drug consumption is usually involved. However, if you follow the general bathing rules and do not go into the water when the waves are high, you have little to fear.

health

If you are legally insured in Germany or Austria, you can get medical treatment in Poland without any problems and the costs will then be reimbursed / covered by your own health insurance. Basically, you need the European health card EHIC for this. If you travel to Poland for (dental) treatment, the assumption of costs should be clarified with the German / Austrian health insurance company in advance.

The supply of pharmacies is quite good and many medicines are cheaper in Poland than in Germany. Prescription drugs can only be obtained upon presentation of a doctor's prescription. It is best to clarify in advance whether the desired medicines require a prescription in Poland and to get a prescription from a Polish doctor in advance.

Doctors and pharmacists in Poland usually speak English very well, and some also speak German. You can find out which doctors or pharmacists speak German at the local chamber of doctors or pharmacists.

climate

In the region there is a transitional climate between maritime and continental climates. The amount of precipitation is lower and the temperature fluctuations higher (warmer summers, colder winters) than on comparable coasts in Western Europe.
