The trains are modern diesel multiple units of the DB class 648 (LINT-41). The trains can get very crowded at peak times. Most travelers will be using the train connection Hamburg above Kiel come. The train to Eckernförde does not wait for the timed regional train Hamburg – Kiel in the event of delays, otherwise there will be further delays on the single-track route with a fast train sequence. Even if you take an ICE to Kiel, delays are not always waited for.

- The central bus station 6 ZOB is right next to the train station. Around a dozen overland lines from neighboring villages and towns stop here. The bus
4810 from Kiel (Ziegelteich / Zentrum stop, 270 m from the main station) takes about 50 minutes, the
3050 of Rendsburg-ZOB about 45 minutes. The bus
3010 goes to Damp. These lines run almost every hour on weekdays and every two hours on weekends.
The cycle of some other lines is thinner, there are only a few buses per day during the week and often not at all on the weekend. The drivers often only know their own line and can rarely provide information about other lines. At lunchtime, the buses are often full of students when it is not vacation time.

The building served as the town hall until 1984 and then became the Museum Eckernförde rebuilt. There has been a "council wine cellar" on the ground floor since the 18th century. Today the restaurant is located here Ratskeller.

The house in today's main shopping street Eckernfördes, Kieler Straße, was built as a Gothic building around the first half of the 16th century in the immediate vicinity of the former city gate and the city wall. The city gate was dismantled around 1760. The old town clerk's house and a second adjacent building had to give way in the second half of the 1960s for road expansion measures.

It was entered in the monument register in 1972 and has not been used as a silo since 1986. A restaurant was set up in 2008 on the ground floor of the round silo. The former silo is one of the landmarks of Eckernförd.

- The 18 "Old lighthouse" on the ship bridge is a twelve meter high concrete tower built in 1907. It was replaced in 1981 by a new beacon on the pier of the new marina. To distinguish it, the old tower was painted in the Eckernförde coat of arms colors.
- The 19 Eckernförde lighthouse a little away from the village is a square, white concrete tower with a platform. The technical rooms are located in the lower part of the tower. The tower is a guide and warning light. The lighthouse is not manned, there is no lighthouse keeper. The remote monitoring of the Eckernförde pilot light with the Eckernförde harbor light is carried out by the constantly manned traffic control center in Travemünde. The tower is not open to the public.
- The 20 Eckernförde lighthouse (harbor) marks the entrance to the port. The red and white, 12 m high, "new" lighthouse, visible from afar, was built in 1981 on the pier of the marina. Events
- The Stadthalle bietet laufend interessante Veranstaltungen.
