The Pacific is the largest ocean in the world. The islands in this ocean are spread over a large area. Outside the islands belonging to the continent Oceania are counted, there are still a number of islands in the Pacific Ocean that do not belong to it.

The Pacific Ocean covers nearly half of the Earth's surface and is also the deepest of all five oceans. There are thousands of islands in the ocean that are very varied and many islands are not or hardly (permanently) inhabited. The well-known Galápagos Islands are an example of an island group that is inhabited (about 40,000 inhabitants) and there are also a number of important island states in the ocean.
