Emmerthal is a city and municipality in Lower Saxony about 10 kilometers south of Hamelin extending to both sides of the Weser.

background

The districts of Amelgatzen, Hämelschenburg and Welsede as well as Börry, Bessinghausen, Brockensen, Esperde, Frenke, Hajen and Latferde, Grohnde and Lüntorf belong to the municipality formed in the course of an administrative reform from the places Emmern, Hagenohsen, Kirchohsen, Ohr and Voremberg.

As strategically located places on the Weser and a ford, the places, on top of that in the border area between Hanover and Westphalia, have an eventful history with changing owners and devastation suffered.

The castle is the most important tourist destination Hämelschenburg, one of the style-defining houses of the Weser Renaissance. The district Grohnde is known nationwide for the nuclear power plant of the same name.

Cycling on the Emmer cycle route

The Emmer cycle route is about 40 km long. The total length of the Emmer itself is 69 km.

  • The upper end point is at Steinheim-Eichholz on the eastern slope of the Egge Mountains. The headwaters also affect the communities Bad Driburg and Nienheim.
  • In the municipality Schieder-Schwalenberg the river is dammed into a reservoir.
  • To Lie the cycle routes are led on both sides of the Emmer. There the Brunnenstrasse leads, then Hauptmann-Boelcke-Weg over the Emmer to the zoo and the tourist center Bad Pyrmont. Alternatively, you can also follow the railway line (south side).
  • In Bad Pyrmont is the route further over the district Thal signposted.
  • The route leads in Emmerthal-Welsede to the right / southeast side of the Emmer and the railway line Bad Pyrmont-Hamelin. To Hammelschenburg you have to deviate before the route; However, on the main route you have a good view of this monument. However, the quality of the path is somewhat poor in this area and there are gradients.
  • In Emmerthal leads the route over the L 341 over the Weser and on the Weser cycle path. You drive upstream in the direction Bodenwerder, downhill you can quickly get to the neighboring town Hamelin.
