Geographical notes
The town develops in a tributary valley of the Cavallina Valley, in the area Bergamo of the Prealps and great Lombard lakes. It is 26 km from BergamoThe first news about the town dates back to medieval times, before which the territory was only affected by scattered settlements. However, recent studies would trace the origin of the toponym to the pre-Roman age, when the Cenomanian Gauls settled in the territories of Bergamo: in any case, these are only hypotheses, not supported by specific findings or concrete elements.
The documented history, on the other hand, tells of repeated clashes that took place in the area in the middle of the Middle Ages, when the fratricidal battles between Guelphs and Ghibellines raged throughout the province of Bergamo. Gaverina found herself involved in a particular way given that on the current municipal territory there were two important families, belonging to the two camps: the Ghibelline Giovannelli family lived in the village of Gaverina, while in the Piano hamlet (administratively separated at that time) downstream, the Suardi stationed who subjected a large part of the Cavallina valley.
Consequently, numerous defensive buildings were built on the territory aimed at protecting the possessions and the population itself, among which the Torre Suardi still stands out today. This situation of profound social and political instability ended with the arrival, in the 15th century, of the Republic of Venice, which issued a series of laws aimed at balancing the situation and improving the economic condition of the inhabitants of these areas tormented by centuries of battles.
From this moment in the country there were no significant episodes, so much so that Gaverina followed the political fate of the rest of the valley. At the administrative level it is important to note that from the period of the Serenissima the two municipalities of Gaverina and Piano were united in a single entity initially called Gaverina con Piano, to then assume, during the twentieth century, the current name of Gaverina Terme. This is thanks to the presence in the municipal area of water bottling plants and to the thermal exploitation of the same that spring abundantly from the subsoil.

- Palazzo delle Terme (in the locality of Fonti). Thanks to the exploitation of the waters, Gaverina Terme experienced a period of great splendor, testified by the Palazzo delle Terme built in 1922 in Art Nouveau style.
- Church of the Virgin of Sorrows (in the district Trate). In Baroque style, it preserves paintings dating back to the 18th century, among which an altarpiece by Giovanni Carobbio stands out
- Church of San Rocco. Dating back to the seventeenth century, it is located in Gaverina on a rocky spur where a fortification belonging to the Giovannelli family once stood.
- Tower of the Suardi. From the Middle Ages, the Torre dei Suardi dates back to the 14th century and stands out from a dominant position over the entire area.
- Parish church of San Vittore Martire. Built during the fifteenth century and enlarged several times in the following centuries, it features Baroque-style architecture and works of great value, among which those of Giovan Battista Moroni and the Genoese painter Lambro stand out.
- Sanctuary of the Madonna della Neve (on Colle Gallo). It dates back to 1690 when a pilgrim during a stop had a vision of the Madonna. After a recent restoration, which took place in 1990, this place has become a meeting point for cyclists in the area, since the Madonna del Colle Gallo was erected as their protector.

- Endine lake - The lake can offer the visitor the practice of sporting activities such as fishing, boat excursions, windsurfing and trekking, but also simple walks. There are numerous leisure opportunities, including beaches and renowned restaurants scattered along the lake shore.
- Lake Iseo — Iseo, Pisogne, Lovere, Sarnico is Monte Isola are the cities of this lake formed by the Oglio which with its waters has filled the glacial valley carved by the glacier of Valcamonica. It is the fourth largest among the great Lombard lakes, and like the others it enjoys a good tourist activity.
- Clusone - Main center of the Val Seriana, it boasts important architectural testimonies both religious and civil. It is a tourist center of good standing.
