Herdecke is a city in the state North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany and lies within the Ruhr area southwest of Dortmund.
background
The rather small town with just under 23,000 inhabitants belongs to the Ennepe-Ruhr district and is legally and organizationally independent. This often leads to irritation, as the name given to the private University of Witten / Herdecke, which was created in cooperation with the neighboring town, gives non-residents the impression that Herdecke is a district of Witten.

The city center of Herdecke is not particularly large, and the main shopping street is designated as a pedestrian zone. There are parking spaces in the immediate vicinity, especially on the parking deck at the mill center. There is another parking garage in the center behind the Sparkasse.
Those who prefer to use public transport can take various bus routes to the city center and the outskirts. Buses also connect Herdecke with the neighboring cities Dortmund, Hagen, Weather and Witten mostly every half hour.
Herdecke also has a constantly growing network of cycle paths, which make getting around by bike much easier.
