Weather (Ruhr) is a city in North Rhine-Westphalia and lies at the intersection of the east-west axis between Hagen and Witten as well as the north-south axis between Dortmund and Wuppertal.

Wetter lies on the western edge of the Ardey Mountains and on the northeastern edge of the Hasslinghauser Ridge. The city was founded with the community reform in the early 1970s and consists of the formerly independent communities now districts Alt-Wetter, Volmarstein, Wengern and Esborn.

Wetter Castle was built in the 2nd half of the 13th century by the Counts of the Mark. Village and freedom Wetter received freedom privileges around 1355.

The current districts of Wengern and Volmarstein were first mentioned in the 11th century. The town church of Wengern was raised to a parish church by the Archbishop of Cologne Sigewin von Are around 1080.
